2024 FYC Boat of the Year

FYC BOTY is open to all FYC members in good standing that have started at least 7 of the races listed in the attachment. If no yacht has completed 7 races in a given year, the number of races may reduce by 1 until a yacht qualifies.
BOTY calculations will be done with a new system for 2024 per the Race Committee meeting in June of this year.
The new system is to encourage more racing, qualify more boats, and determine the best FYC yacht sailed to all other FYC yachts racing in a given sailing season. The system will use low point scoring and only count FYC yachts racing in either Spinnaker or JAM classes. This will adjust a yachts finish place to how it did amongst other FYC boats racing and not the entire fleet. 1st place will receive 1 point, 2nd place will receive 2 points, etc. Lowest point totals after 7 races will win Boat of the Year.
As an example, you might have been 3rd overall for the Mills Trophy race compared to all yachts racing, but the 1st overall for FYC yachts finishing in that event. You would score 1 point for the Mills Trophy race.
Classes in which you may compete include PHRF Spinnaker OR PHRF Jib and Main. A RRS rule 2 violation in any race during the year may disqualify you from qualification for BOTY.
Your BOTY calculations also must include at least 2 races from FYC, 1 race from GIYC, and 1 race from WSSC. If you did not start a race with one of those clubs, you may take a DNS scoring if necessary with that is equal to the number of FYC boats finishing for that event +1. Selected races have been agreed to with our partner clubs in agreements to try and encourage participation in larger events.
There will not be a tie breaking procedure for this new method and the award can be shared in a given year.
