Heavy, Gusty breezes had everybody thinking ahead about sail selection and potential sail changes. The first leg was a run, demanding maximum sail area to be used if you wanted to stay in the game. A Beam reach on the second leg was still manageable but on the third leg, a close reach it became apparent that boats would need a reef to make the final upwind leg.

Highlights included a close packed fleet for the first leg, then a tight mark rounding situation where "Sea-Turtle" had a "Bad-Idea" at RM-3.

The "Tri-Again" had a full crew, including 6 year old Nephew and 12 year old niece. Erica was on the helm for the first time this year, and despite a hickup at the start (for which we were right on the line!) that I am sure was a spectacular crash jibe, overall handled the tricky steering wheel pretty well. We had considerable challenges when trying to reef the Mainsail, the halyard shackle freed itself and was lost up the mast. Fortunatley, we had a spare halyard for our cruising kite which worked fine on the reefed main.

The new boat - The "Blur" is still not registered, but promises to be registered by next week when the Summer series starts. The little boat did well with their new mylar headsail and one-week-old main. They pulled ahead to a 3 minute lead over "Bad Idea" in the final leg.

Sadly, Delilah is steel reeling from her Post-Mills race stress and retired after their Rudder kicked up during the first leg.

Nautilus sailed the whole race with a reefed Main, and while they did not take any flag honors, I would say they looked like the most relaxed and happy crew out there.

Sea-Turtle was definitely wanting to go back in her shell. The heavier air seems to blow the poor boat all over the place. Well you have to take the bad with the good, Mark! I think they were still well in the race though!

Thanks to Dean Weygandt and Crew for Race Commitee Duties. Sure is tough to set a hook in those gusts! They managed to set theirs on the second try and still get the race off at 7:05:00 GPS time! Great Job!
