"A RIGGING KNIFE AND A BAD IDEA"
Technical difficulties, or confusion kept half of the fleet far from starting on time. (Not that the two first boats had stellar starts either!) Course 4 took us to Turtle Island(beat with a short port-tack jog), RM 3(broad reach) , then RM 2 (close reach)and back (Broad reach).
Other than good wind it would have been an uneventful night, save for a certain crew member on "Bad Idea" got in it upside down when they were taking out the reef in the mainsail. Seems the rigging knife came out, and sawing away at the reef line, he pulled a "wylie coyote" trick akin to sawing of the branch he was standing on. The line let go, the boom dropped, and he was sent flipping overboard. He managed to grab on long enough for crew to run and pull him in. There is a huge gash above the left eye, but small compared to the bashing his crew gave him at the bar later.
